Lamar Andrews was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey where he was raised by his single mother, Dionne Andrews, with help from other family members. His mother tried hard but like most single parents, it truly took a village to help raise Lamar and his sister. When his mother got sick, he and his sister lived with his aunt and her three children for over a year . From there, Lamar, his sister, and his mother moved in with his grandmother and step-grandfather.
When Lamar reached his sophomore year in high school, he moved in with a family member to Connecticut to help keep him out of trouble that was bound to get into if he stayed in Newark. It was hard for him to leave behind his mother, sister, and the life he’d grown to know but little did he know it was only the beginning of many adventures he had ahead.
Lamar’s professional background started when he moved to Connecticut and took a high school Marketing class and competed in marketing competitions, doing so well that it was basically the sole reason he graduated high school. Following graduating high school, Lamar decided to pursue his passion to go to drama school in New York City to study acting and performing arts. He performed contemporary and classical work, ranging from Chekov to Spike Lee both on camera and live and with NYC as his muse, Lamar started to build a career.
He went on to perform theater in off Broadway venues as well as act in television shows, commercials, and indie films. His acting work led him into more modeling where he did runway shows, print campaigns, and promotional and fitness modeling. But after eight years in NYC, Lamar felt like it was time for a change and moved to Los Angeles to continue to build his career as an actor and model. He’s since been working successfully in the industry and has expanded his platform as an auto show presenter, TV hosting, and game shows.
Lamar didn’t meet his father until he was 33 by way of a conversation with a cab driver. One day after a modeling gig, he was heading back to the hotel when a cab driver asked if he was Ethiopian because he looked like he was. Lamar thought his father was Ethiopian but had no real way of knowing since he’d never met him so he told the cab driver his father’s name to which the driver helped him figure out that his name had been americanized. Lamar used Facebook to look up his father and find out he had lived 10 minutes away from him most of his life in Newark.
Long story short he ends up meeting his half-brother, half-sister, and aunt a couple of months later and one month after that he finally met his father. Until this day, he only met his father that one time but had a chance to meet his father's family, have conversations and still have connections with them.
